TO MIND - NEHERA

It happened in the (not so long) past with Céline and lately with Carven and Delpozo. At the end I guess someone will think or take it as a trend. But is not. What are we talking about? To revive a brand or to wake it up from the long-sleep, to say it in a more romantic way. That happened also with the Slovakian brand Nehera. The brand´s history starts in the first half of the 20th century, when the former designer and founder, Jan Nehera, made in the mid 30´s from it a renowed fashion house with over 130 fashion stores throughout Europe, USA, Russia, North and South Afrika. Everything didn´t last long. The reason was the second World War, that halted the business.
In 2014, after 70 years of silence,  the eastern beauty was brought back to life under the creative helm of Samuel Drira. Anyone that knows the aethethic of the French stylist,  creative consultant and founder-editor of the Parisian magazine Encens, knows in which direction is and will take the brand. It´s Drira´s credit (as a creative consultant) for the beginning and for my opinion the best Damir Doma era ever. On the list are also the rebirth of ChristopheLemaire and Hermès, not forget to mention The Row.  If you make a line and sum all images of the mentioned brands, you´ve got nearly a common aesthethic – the 80´s to 90´s, Japanese-influenced.
Nehera´s first official collection, the S/S 2015 one, is titled “Black Canvas”. What a best way to explain, how they needed to invent everything from the scratch. Literally they needed to consider how the new “basic” should look like. If we take for an example a white shirt – what a white shirt really is? Its point? How should be the collar, eventually the pocket and what most important is, the cut? The result are the boxy-pleated shirts, elongated jackets, voluminous pants and ankle-length ones and shirt-dresses. Smart, daily and well-made pieces, for an eclectic, practical and reflective woman, that loves comfort, long-lasting pieces and elegancy.

Almost forgot to publish one of the best ad-campaigns this season. Kris Van Assche S/S2015. This movement and into-the camera photos is the coolest and intelligent way to present clothes - at the end is about them, isn´t it. The perfect marriage between urban and tailoring.

BARBARA ALAN

Barbara Alan have a strong Modernist design aesthetic. They work with the latest advances in garment production, as well as using unconventional pattern cutting and construction to develop luxury and quality collections that are not only versatile but functional as well. They are in every way innovative but the unexpected – the unaccustomed fabrics, the lack of stitching, their shape-shifting transformational qualities only increase their beauty.

The British duo for their S/S 2015 collection present levels of juxtaposing lengths. Over sized, exaggerated templates compensate splits and crops in garments. Strength inlines and capacious geometric patterns are unarmed by thefluidity of rounded hems in light transparent fabrics, facilitating summer layering. The muted color palette, composed of various blacks, balanced with raw inky blues, pewter and concrete gray brings a natural tonality to the Spring Summer 2015 collection.
To describe their designs as wearable sculpture is to miss the point of their serious engagement with femininity.

PRADA S/S 2015 AD CAMPAIGN VIDEOS

A month ago Prada started its S/S2015 campaign era with photos...now it´s a turn of video, actually three of them. Divided in categories and each feature a different model; from top to bottom, "Intimate" featuring Gemma Ward, "Psychedelic" featuring Julia Nobis and "Stoic" featuring Ine Neefs.
Now comes a classic question: which is your favourite one?

WELCOME BACK JOHN!

Where to start? Hmm..there´s kind an embarrass when you must to write or try to about two master names of fashion under the same project. I think I will leave the images to speak on their own, with an only note, that this Haute Couture collection (artisanal) for Maison Margiela (yes, there´s a name change too…why YSL to SL and not MMM to MM? so welcome!) by one and only John Galliano was just a warm starter of what we can expect in the future from this collaboration and also a way more enough to un-doubt all possible doubters. So, enjoy…

PARISIENNE

The French luxury house S/S 2015 is what probably Eddie Sedgwidick would wear; a collection totally inspired by the 60´and th 70´s. There were all elements of that period present: flared short dresses with wide sleeves, wrap mini-skirts, high-waist pants, close-fitting knits, multi-pattern velvet suits, raw denim and tailored jackets with lower shoulders, paired with accessories like boots or ankle boots with a sculpture-like heel, maxi earrings and of course bags, big and small, that every of 48 looks have. Ghesquière reconfirmed his well-known fame as a master of mixing together different materials, this time leather, raw denim, jersey, satin, patent leather, metal, plastic, sequins, velvet, lace, wool and cotton. A welcome-back to Nicolas from his glory days (at Balenciaga).

TIME WILL SHOW

I did a bit on purpose to wait with the Jil Sander S/S 2015 post; why? Mostly because my response right after seeing the collection would be a bit irrational, impulsive and by saying that not really a big lode to a new creative director. I need my time and I guess I took it way too much, that I almost forgot about the collection, till today. I knew that a new Raf Simons wouldn´t come. He was the only one, beside Jil, that made from a brand something of a cult. Rodolfo Paglialunga, former women’s-wear design director at Prada and creative director at Vionnet, as a brand new leading man got a big and not easy inheritance to take.  By now, the brand´s famous androgynous look and design almost remains; for his debut collection, Paglialunga was inspired by a 1930´s Swiss writer and photographer, Annemarie Schwarzenbach, known for her genderless style. Knitwear with shirts underneath paired with pencil skirts or with really feminine apron-style skirts, elegant blouses with oversize shorts and tailored jackets with micro-tops, are examples how he mixed masculine and feminine elements. Let´s really wait (some time), to see results, before making a real work evaluation.

URBAN BOHEMIAN

The German designer brought to us a S/S 2015 collection full of different tailoring techniques, structured shapes and marvelous materials-experiments, without “leaving „the functional and very wearable side. Colors, like milk, grey, ivory, navy and black, with moments of vivid blue and a mélange brick-orange, blended into straight jackets, wide-leg shorts, crisp shirts, contemporary artist smocks and sweatshirts. His love for artisanal manipulation of materials was seen in pieces, like a burnt wool jacquard on linen shorts, marbled denim with paint splatters and coated cotton shirts looking like made of paper. Nice debut for his first Milan runway show.

GELLER´S NOVEL

During the warmer season Robert Geller doesn´t mind about the heat, so he is not intended to leave the layering out of the game. After all it is one of his trademarks and thanks god, he is right to doing so. Large over lean, could we say, if we need to be concrete. Tunic tops worn over slim-cropped pants and paired with a dust-coat or blazer or a bomber jacket, pyjama-like cropped jumpsuit, deep neck t-shirt and/or shirts and many tailoring elements. Besides the layering, what I love of Geller´s aesthetic is the ability to mix different materials, like neoprene, leather and cotton and different textures all together; and that´s not all. I really admire how he masterfully combines different colours and patterns, like the various applications of the brushstroke seen in this collection, to obtain a modern, solid and fresh look with a hint of the past.
