Couture is a way for any lucky designer to showcase its statement of strength and technical ability. Why lucky? Regardless the fact that each this made-to-measure pieces costs a fortune, not anyone nor any fashion house can use that world as a statement per se, because the entry to the schedule is very strictly policed by the Chambre de commerce et d´industrie de Paris and each fashion house before get that statement must meet stringent guidelines, including having a Paris-based atelier with more than 20 people to work in. After all we are talking of the crème de la crème in fashion, building that way a strong image to fashion houses, like Chanel and Dior, who most profits from it gain not through showcased clothes, but through handbags, accessories and beauty products.

It was not just the "having in common" hair-brow look that convince me about this editorial, neither the colour of the eyes, well, honestly, this made it even more inviting, but the main reason was in the apparent simplicity, that scream, quietly of course, of details. It is like the other side of minimalism, the contra-part of essentialism. A tasteful play, excellent for daily life-adventures.

DAZED WINTER 2016

Dazed put the of the coolest tweens around, 13-year-old Finn Wolfhard and 12-year-old Millie Bobby Brown, both photographed by Collier Schorr,  on a cover of their Winter 2016 edition that hits newsstands on Nov. 24.

THE HAPPY READER #08

One of our favourite publications is out with its newest issue! If you never got/saw a copy of "The Happy Reader" or even didn´t heard about it, it´s really time to do so.  This magazine is a “love child” of Fantastic Man and Penguin books and really attracted vast and loyal following since it landed on newsstands or flew through letterbox in the winter 2014. Each issue of the quarterly has is built in a simple, but very original concept; the first half features an interview with a famous book lover, while the second half features stories inspired by "the book of the season" or in other words it is an depth look at one piece of classic literature. This magazine is not only for those who are passionate of literature, but also for those who are found of art, fashion, history, film and much more.

It took really looong time when the first woman´s suit officially came out, especially if you got an example of year 666 when King Charles II of England copied French king Louis XIV in demanding that men in court wear waistcoats, trousers, and ties, influencing especially in England that this attire evolved into the modern suit for men. Before the year 1914 when Coco Chanel designed her first suit, a fur-trimmed jacket with a matching ankle-length skirt, there was an actress, Sandra Bernhardt, that already in the 1870´s scandalized Paris by wearing a custom-made trousers suit, which she called her "boy´s clothes". Who don´t remember Marlene Dietrich in 1930´s films "Morocco" and "Blonde Venus" in which she wore a tuxedo and a top hat, while performing on stage, not to mention Katharine Hepburn who wore this garment frequently also during her private life, making her style distinctive and original, especially for that time. Years after the relation between the suit and women with the environment, society become more symbiotic and fluid, with periods when the garment was feminized almost to the limit or times when women wore it in a men´s nonchalant way, but still adding some feminine touches, like in this editorial for example.

The Document Journal F/W 2016/2017 issue #09 goes with Tilda Swinton by Colin Dodgson, Charlotte Rampling by (not really a surprise) Juergen Teller and covers by Ryan McGinley, Willy Vanderperre and Bruce Weber. What does it mean? I think is the must pre-phase or state before that reflects on your external one. A quote by French style guru Madame Genevieve Antoine Dariaux, who wrote a book "Elegance", a classic style bible for timeless chic, grace, and poise, may help here: "To be elegant is first of all to know oneself, and to know oneself well requires a certain amount of reflection and intelligence." And by that I guess you need to have a decent level of self-confidence, kindness and last, but foremost, to be authentic, to be yourself.
