CÉLINE SPRING 2017 AD CAMPAIGN
Phototographer Talia Chetrit was totally in
charge to shoot not only the lookbook of Céline´s resort (or as the fashion
house call it rightly "spring") 2017 collection, but also did their ad-campaign. In
charge of styling was Jodie Barnes, with beauty from makeup from Fara Homidi at
Frankreps, and hair stylist Jimmy Paul, while the models featured are Laura
Morgan and Lena Hardt.
COMFORTABLE AND ELEGANT
It feels like it has been ages ago of Victoria doing/creating cocktail/event-wear garments. Now her woman is all about understated and relaxed elegance, no matter if this relax is literal as seen in a satin bomber jacket or a couple of easy jumpsuits or more in a "hidden" way as are cropped, wide-legged, pleated and high-waisted trousers or a slouchy, satin-chic sweat-pant option, not to mention midi dresses and skirts, embellished with micro, retro floral prints. Even the shoes seems comfortable, regardless if it’s about block-heel pumps or pointed masculine-like ones, but still, as the clothes, maintaining the high level of elegance.
FIRST OFFICIAL
Nadège Vanhee-Cybulski used the brand´s famous scarves patterns from the archive and transformed them into prints for silk shirts and dresses that are paired with high-waisted trousers, cashmere-knitted pieces, straight skirts with a split and tweed suits. The "commercially looking" yellow summer parka turns into pure lux due the use of double-face cashmere, while the leather is worked into open-work surfaces.
Normally the (not so anymore) hidden meaning of pre-collection is in their commercial good effort, as they are normally the money-maker for the brand. Not that Hermès one, that is actually their debut one in terms of official showcase, isn´t that way sell-able, but definitely much, much less accessible to a larger customer circle, compared to other high-end brands. They even don´t make a big differences in terms of garments design between regular show-collections and pre-collections, because normally the show- pieces take care of the image of each house, while the in-between are the sellable ones. Whatever comes from Hermès is a silent-lux piece, made impeccable and has that casual easy, but with a quite higher price-tag on. Why? It´s a part of their image-tactic, made possible mostly thankfully to their leather bags and accessories. Just mind their "Kelly and "Birkin", how many people craves after them and how much they are still a status-symbol for many, then you will get the answer.
MORE OPTIONS
Are resort clothes meant to be only for those who enjoy in-between seasons in places with more warm-climate, like Africa or any tropic place? Sure and not. Actually this is the feeling I´ve got with this Balenciaga collection by Gvasalia. Among so far typical pieces, like caftans, here mostly fully-striped, simple dresses and "from market to dinner"slides, the ones that I put on my wish-list, you can find quite oversize leather jackets, baggy trousers, embroidered caps (probably a hit alert for fashionistas already), not to mention his boxy tailoring and some plissé. This collection is not only for a sun-catcher woman, but also for urban fellas or the one who skipped the vacation this time (for now) and need to work even in tailored shorts and a pair of pointy low-heeled ankle-strap shoes.
MODERN ESSENTIAL
If you are looking for modern wardrobe essentials, that embrace minimalism, silent luxury, a contrast of rigour and softness, not to mention elegance and lately so evoked genderless approach, well then this collection delivered by Rodolfo Paglialunga it´s a clear match for you. Crispy cotton poplin shirts are wide and have that enveloping effect, knitted sweaters have delicate bows at the sleeves, while leather pleated skirts have contrasting lacquered trim and velvet sheath dresses feature wrinkled shimmering-effect. There´s no Jil Sander collection without the presence of timeless pieces, like double-faced cashmere coats, fluid suits, shirt dresses that are gathered at the waist and trench-coat, this time with a generous cut, as all cotton pants present.

MINI-MAL FOR MAXI-MAL
Georgia Lazarus creates for Protagonist collections in the name of minimalism, elegant, timeless garments, made of clean lines, never boring. Making minimalism is in my opinion the hardest work, because the garments fastly can become too rigorous, too rigid and, most of the time, very humdrum. None of this is a case for Georgia´s Protagonist. In every single garment you can find, beside best materials and perfect execution, very interesting details and/or cut and/or shapes-volumes. Just mind from this collection the oxford shirt with a wide neckline or in a hourglass silhouette cut jacket or the slits of the skirts, shapes of the sleeves, not to mention her clever use of materials to elevate already beautiful pieces, like for example lamé and organza for knee-length or short dresses.
EXPERIMENTAL AND PLAYFUL
Natasa Cagalj showcases her lust for experimentation in this Ports 1961 resort 2017 collection, made by new shapes, proportions and surprising cuts. The cut-out details showcasing bare-skin is featured on men´s-inspired shirts and shirt dress, while she also continues with the side-sleeve cut on sweatshirts, sweaters and some shirts, this time with really deep ones. The silhouette is half of collection rounded, mostly accentuated in sleeves for oversize coats, some ankle-length pants with drawstring ties at the end and some tops, while the other half is straight and flared, seen especially in the tailored part of the collection, including the brand´s traditional suits, but without that sartorial rigour and strictness. They were actually embellished by waves and some ironic slogans to not only create some graphic elements, but to cheer-them-up, turn the playfulness part on, which was the general feeling present throughout the whole collection.
PRADA RESORT 2017 AD CAMPAIGN
Even though I didn´t recognized her at
first, I find the American actress Jessica Chastain great in this Prada Resort
2017 campaign, shot by one and only Willy Vanderperre and styled by OlivierRizzo. To be frank, this is not Chastain´s first campaign, but for sure it´s
the first for the Milanese brand and definitely the first one featuring her
that I like. These series of images are sort of "Prada playing Prada", meaning that
Jessica wears and carries the essential Prada, a kind-of distillation of the
brand, while the background features Milanese landmarks, places where Prada feels most like at home, such as via Daniele
Manin, Civic Planetarium "Ulrico Hoepli" and, of course, Fondazione Prada.
STRONG AND SOFT
Gabriela Hearst combines past-like, not really retro, with modern shapes, as material and patterns too, achieving this way that strong-soft contrast in her collections. Below the knee flared skirts, floor-length pants, demure dresses with some see-through sheerness, cocoon cashmere coats and micro-plaid trench-coat, not to mention all evening ensembles, like an ivory tea-length dress with short sleeves or silk camisoles, are the Resort 2017 elements for a modern Hearst woman, who is a business one, but feminine and romantic too. A sort of “for every occasion” dressing, where you can find also pieces with strong graphic patterns on fluid and/or soft materials, like a sweater and skirt with blue, red and white stripes.
GETTY´S PLAYFUL SIDE
Rosetta Getty merged two main influences for her resort 2017 collection, the colour palette inspired by the American painter Ellsworth Kelly, especially noticeable in pieces with colourful stripes and bold lines, and the silhouette is really back to the 70´s Los Angeles, meaning loads of flared, wide shapes, but also slim, straight and asymmetric. Nothing is left, everything is “on the list”, from polka dots to fringes, from flared denim-like pieced made in indigo tweed with clean lines and visible stitching to western-style shirts and high-waisted pants, not to mention knitted dresses, some loose ruffles and frills. This is a playful collection, easy at first-sight, but expressive in details.
ELEBORATED ESSENTIALISM
Samuel Drira´s constant idea is to bring a sort of uniformity, but not the literal one that sound stiff and rigid, but he is about pieces with a certain flexibility or in other words, elevated basics, must-haves that encompass all elements, from comfort to quality, from ease to versatility. Layering silhouettes, made from elaborated garments inspirited by essential pieces, as may be the kimono and a shirt in an East-meets-West way, like for example relaxing denim with a Judo belt, lightweight lacquered leather reversible blouson, tunics, fringed dresses and ponchos, cotton track pants and bicolour plisse knits. The colour palette is mostly in the Nehera classic scheme, like beige, black and oatmeal, but Drira added also some pop of colour, seen in saturated tones of purple, khaki and rust, inspired by the universe of artist Serge Lutens.
CASUAL/FORMAL
This resort collection remains in Lang codes, a conceptual minimalism defined by deconstructed trench coats turned, actually transformed into tops and skirts and paired with crisp-cotton shirts or slim-fit sweaters with different sleeve-cuts, not to mention the constant play with contrasts, like sweatshirts paired with elegant, cropped trousers, fine knits with a "rough" denim or in a lingerie-style lace top half-tucked into cargo pants. If you know Helmut Lang´s (designer) original aesthetic point of view, then you will know what is about; a casual/formal way of dressing way for 18 hours busy long work days.
STREET-LUX
Off-White is known for its street-wear-cool, mixing sportswear, music, blink-blink and even some menswear references, mostly build, pardon sewed on lux-materials. Probably you´ve never been to concert, where you´ve been be able to buy a typical "Tour T-shirt" in a precious organza and believe me you will never be. This piece among denim jacket and striped-trench, both with floral embroideries, pleated lame skirts or the ruffled ones with raw hems and a sweatshirt with extra-long sleeves are some of the peak pieces from Virgil Abloh´s resort 2017 collection, but our eyes laid on Abloh´s signature flannel shirt, this time made in Lurex and on a cream trench coat in wax-coated organza with contrasting stitches.
SOMETHING TO LOVE
Samuel Drira as a creative director of this Slovakian (based) brand is continuing to offering timeless garments, combining great construction and utility, making the wearer feel comfortable, serene and sensual at the same time. His spring 2016 collection is made of mostly two tonal looks, making that way an extra effect on designs that are already playing with volumes and proportions, mixing classic-tailoring with oversize. Different, classy, new classic and sophisticated.
ISABEL MARANT RESORT 2016 LOOKBOOK
Not roll your eyes now, please. I know that am kind-a-late to post any resort 2016 collection. I must admit it that I totally forgot about this one, really lovely and wearable by Isabel Marant. One almost lost "opportunity" makes a new one, so I thought why not to post it, without any review, but to making it as a great inspiration for the upcoming warmer season. Or you can use it as a “Marant-piece-detector” for your wish lit.
