CELEBRATIVE SIR MOVRIN

When there´s a time, as it is lately, that big fashion houses and designer names are influenced by the new ones in as much as to literally "borrow" their ideas and propose them on their catwalk, when even the street-style, in last few seasons become a sort of pea-cocking one, is under that massive influence instead to make an own, personal and individual (mind that word people!) fashion statement, well, I fastly become hungry of London and its fashion week. Well, to be frank, when the hunger is about pure talent, there are only shows limited to fashion schools that can feed me, and CSM is definitely THE ONE! Friday 17th was marked by the fashion presentation at the talent-mecca, the one that press, head-hunters, press, buyers, stylists, photographers, educators and every fashion student in the world looks to. 16 out of 30 from the MA class 2017 were picked to showcase their skills and at the end there were two winners of the Creative Award presented with L’Oréal. But which are criteria that fulfil our expectations? Which are the factors that showcase in an evident way who is better than other? What makes that designer better? It isn´t at the end a matter of an individual, subjectively-oriented taste? Stefan Cooke with his inspiring, modern mosaic and trompe l´oeil menswear collection and his opposing-part Gabriele Skucas with her minimal and traditional approach, were great, but not my favourite ones. There were other that I like too, like Li Gong´s tailoring or Robert Wallace´s pants, but I prefer the most Peter Movrin´s colour bomb-collection, a great mixture of contrasts, where classy gets hand by hand with bold, simplicity with complexity, elegance with eccentric, in a nice play with unconventional and rigid materials such as paper and foil, turned into something almost ethereal and fragile, like a flower-figure. True showpieces in a real sense of the world, perfectly balanced between too-much and too-less. If someone had a chance (if not, now you have) to follow the work of this talented designer, will quickly realize that his design, marked by traditional and modern approach, is never predictable, always different and inspiring, but always very Peter Movrin.

LUV

Movrin, Peter Movrin. Yeah, I bet that you´ve heard this name at least once in the last years and we are more than sure that this will become a constant one present in your mind in terms of uniqueness, creativity and unlimited talent in the fashion world and beyond. Flattering? Sure, it has to be when there´s a undisputable true, pure talent and the Central Saint Martin’s MA alumni is without any doubt the real one (underlined). No more words are needed, because his beauty of work always speaks for itself. So, please, let the magic continue...

MOVRIN´S TRIPLET

When you read about Peter Movrin, most of journalists like to “copy-paste” the Lady Gaga thing, Anna Wintour`s non-indifference and the last add on a long-list of this young and really talented designer, the costume collaboration for the “Hunger years-Mockingjay, part two” movie, instead of being focused and consequently to elevate his enormous talent. His force and the best recommendation are and I truly believe, would always be his designs; every time Movrin showcase his new work, you never know what you can expect and you will always be surprised, in a really positive way. A true inspiration. He reconfirmed that during the Mercedes Benz Fashion Week Ljubljana. Although his S/S 2016 collection is “limited” to only six looks, they have enough power, charisma and story behind to overshadow even many of biggest fashion houses in the world. As with Helmut Newton, by whose work this collection was inspired, is Movrin´s woman also wrapped-uncovered with a primordial eroticism. Black-minimal nineties with loads of low-necklines, silkiness and with a masculine element in the centre, a smoking jacket, is a core of this assemblage. I got heart-eyes for the men´s-like bold-striped pyjama silk pants paired with a trench-robe and for two smoking jackets; one with deconstructed-silk stripes and the one with prolonged and in-between see-through sleeves. The saying that the imagination has no limits is more than plausible when interlaced with creativity and innovativeness. And a true talent as Peter Movrin proves that.

PETER MOVRIN FINALIST OF THE #22 MITTELMODA

We talked about the 22nd edition of Mittelmoda eight months ago. Since then this project/contest went throughout few things/changes, delaying the whole competition. The major one is the new strategic partnership with Vicenza Fiera spa, the international trade fair headquartered in Vicenza (the heart of one of the most qualified productive Industrial sites in Italy). This new agreement between these two brought new life and a further development to the contest promoted by “Mittelmoda The Fashion Award” with the scheduling of new events dedicated to the integration between the young designers’ creativity and the fashion system industry.

On Sunday 17th May 2015 in Vicenza (Italy) we will finally know the winner of the 22nd edition of Mittelmoda The Fashion Award. Actually the winners of 7 awards.

PETER MOVRIN AMONG 12 FINALIST OF MITTELMODA #22

Mittelmoda is the non-profit, independent project, with the aim to support the international creativity unconditionally, by offering a meeting point and place where to compare and show ideas, proposals, innovations and creations to the representatives of major brands from the fashion and design world, to all international mass media, professors, the graduates in fashion design to emerging fashion.
Born in 1993, the project has been developing international network contacts with over 620 schools of fashion and design in 66 countries.
Few days ago the jury, headed by Matteo Marzotto, unveiled the 12 finalist this year´s 22nd edition. Among lots of talented students from the most respectable schools worldwide that applied, one of the finalists is also Peter Movrin.  With his collection "Lu Gedigte Perlaopis", he experimented with different textile options (wool, lycra, neoprene and faux pearls), played mostly monochromatic and combined couture elements with ready-to-wear.  A perfect example of how any collection should be: innovative, thoughtful and creative.

All the 12 finalists are invited to showcase at Mittelmoda Fashion Award 22nd Edition.

LU GEDIGTE PERLAOPIS

About two weeks ago I posted the first official image from Peter Movrin´s MA degree collection "Lu Gedigte Perlaopis"...and also promised you to reveal the whole set; the-day comes today and you can see all images photographed by Maya Nightingale.

"Collection's basic premise is that clothing should be regarded as adornment for body, as precious as jewelry, thus transcending the norms of fast and furious ready-to-wear. A quintessential bourgeois artefact, a pearl necklace, can produce an effect much alike that of a body mutilation, a scar, that most intimate adornment of them all. While researching the Ethiopian tribes' practice of body scarification or decoration the polished sculptures of Constantin Brâncuși kept popping up. The result is a very tactile monochromatic collection, where through manipulation and deformation garments become hidden jewelry pieces. With the final look pearls diffuse into an exotic print as a shout out to the wilderness, to the lost paradise and to painter Emil Nodol. It's an invitation to celebrate." - the official statement of the collection.

“Bijoux never leaves you cold. You always have an emotional response to a piece of jewelry, it carries so much family heritage, and when you have the honor to receive it you are in some way initiated into a society. I believe the same reaction should be expected of garments.” - Peter Movrin

The collection itself proves the versatility of Peter as a designer, combining daily wear elements with haute couture details. My favourite petermovrin collection so far and the one that include the outfit (the main photo and the first one) that I easily see myself to get marry with it.

TEASE ME PETERMOVRIN

I am really proud to show you the first official image of Peter Movrin´s MA degree collection, photographed by Maya Nightingale. YES! From the super-talented young designer from Slovenija. The one who is from his first collection, Franz Madonna, part of NJAL (Not Just a Label, world’s leading designer platform for showcasing and nurturing today’s pioneers in contemporary fashion), where you can also pre-order some of his limited and hand-madepieces. The one who was chosen by Li Edelkoort to exhibit in MoBa 2013 Fashion Biennial, next to Jean-Paul Gaultier, Maison Martin Margiela and Prada. His work has won numerous prizes. Lady Gaga praise his talent by wearing his pieces in several occasions. It´s a question of time that Hollywood will do the same.
You can find his pieces in the Californian boutique Church.

And this is just the beginning!

Nekje, nekoč...za vedno Garevski

Somewhere, once…was a title of a very special and touching fashion event and charity auction in honour of a designer who in last 17 years enormously marked and raise the level of fashion in Slovenija, Zoran Garevski happened this past Tuesday 29th April in Ljubljana, Stara elektrarna.  That day was also Zoran´s birthday and he wanted to celebrate it in a special way; 34 his friends –designers:  Peter Movrin, Dajana Ljubičić , Sanija Reja, Katja Magister, Nena Florjančić, Anđela Lukanović, Nina Tomažin, Ana Jelinič, Petja Zorec, Špela Hvale, Barbara Vrbančič, Barbara Krmelj, Matic Veler, Maja Leskovšek, Sofija Urumović, Sara Valenci, Elena Fajt, Almira Sadar, Vesna Mirtelj, Barbara Podlogar, JSP - Jelena in Svetlana Proković, Urša in Tomaž Draž, Urša Drofenik, Anja Mlakar, Maja Mehle, Marta Kosturska, Petra Grmek, Gia Gruden, Nina Šušnjara, Romi Bukovec, Goga Štiftar, Olgafacesrok - Olga Košica in Rok Marinšek ter Marjeta Grošelj, made their own-unique garment inspired by Zoran´s work.  All pieces shown on the runway were then gone on the auction. The raised money was donated to a hospice house “Hopsic” where Zoran is currently living and which very kind stuff is taking care of him. The lesson of life came from the designer itself, who despite his illness was present in first person during the whole event. His and Hospic motto is: “Give life to your days and not days to your life”.

You can still participate to maintain the service and the mission of hospice house “Hospic” (to give the complete care to very ill people in their final stage of the disease and to their family, where patients are accommodated, for free):

H&M white cotton socks

I do not want to talk about the welcoming of the cold weather (already did that), but yesterday’s Bora at Trieste was really challenging; you know when it blows that much, with all power, to get you a feeling like your face was pulled (a possible after botox effect? :) ) off and you even do not get a time to feel cold, because you are surprised by her unpredictable gusts (to give you -well somehow - how it could looks...you´ve got a mild version on the top motion photo-s). Beside all cold, at the end you do not even mind it, because you have a nice company and time...coffee, great talk, shopping, laughing...plus Bora always brings a sun out…now you know what I mean :).

COZY MOVRIN

Officially cold days are here, started today with a big help of "Ms.Bora" (the good thing of this wind is that brings the sun back :) ). So with no doubts it´s time to start wearing cozy things...I did to, it was Peter Movrin`s day, the hairy-leather sweatshirt. The hair somehow danced with the wind...will you see it (very) soon (not the dance, but the whole sweatshirt ;) ).

Need to mention it here...it was not Movrin´s day just because the sweatshirt...but because of the Lady Gaga; yes, you read it right; Lady Gaga wears Peter Movrin and I am so proud of him! Congrats once again Peter!

To be precise, the title needed to be "between Pines" :), but it sounds funny ;). Really liked the place; a bit darker and kind minimal (if nature with all her beauty and variations could ever be?). There was only one thing i really missed; the smell of Pines (this part was made mostly by dried Pine trees, so no aroma)...it´s quite aromatic (remember how rosemary smells, we are close with the intensity) and really fresh.
Some studies (aha, we are there...what scientist didn´t study yet?) said that  Pine trees are known to release negative ions to help freshen the air we breathe, lift our mood and relieve stress.

A great combo during hot summer days: fresh and calming air ;)

FASHION NEWS // PETER MOVRIN AT MoBA #13 / ARNHEM MODE BIENNALE

This summer from June 8 to July 21, the 5th edition of MoBA (Arnhem Mode Biennale) rather curated by the trend forecaster Li Edelkoort with the theme Fetishism in Fashion.

Low-and high-tech production place for anyone who wants, in the heart of the Fashion Biennale. From June 8 t / m July 8 is the MoBA LAB active. This physical place in the city (Broerenstraat 53), serves as a high-and low-tech production site. A place where an open mind prevails for fashion, art, design and exhibition of MoBA. Where young people come together to exchange knowledge and experience. Out The MoBA LAB is a dynamic fashion studio, where everyone in a relatively simple way concepts can develop into prototypes.

MoBA LAB focuses on young people and is also a meeting place for artists, (fashion) designers, architects, developers, scientists and residents from Arnhem (far) environs. For young and creative professionals are master classes, workshops and trainings.

About  MoBA 13

In a series of exhibitions and events, the passionate connection to the public with fashion and accessories explored and mapped. Of the many wristbands by wearing different bra straps to tighten the corset laces that we are literally connected with and under the spell of fashion that the fetishism of man used in its design. A new world of helmets, harnesses and corsets, of caps, aprons and diapers, of tabards and capes, masks, veils and wigs, clogs, and stilts have changed the idiom of the fashion of tomorrow.

In MoBA 13: Fetishism in Fashion will Li Edelkoort in collaboration with co-curator Philip Fimmano and assisted by Willem Schenk guided by the very special and - so far - unexplored world of fashion and fetishism.

Fetishism in Fashion

Li Edelkoort says about Fetishism in Fashion: " A ls great lover of clothing and textiles in particular, I decided to analyze the obsession with fashion and parse through a theme dedicated to the phenomenon of fetishism. An analysis of the need to explore and express ourselves, to cover and extract the most eccentric extremes to which the desire for beauty man can turn to the eye, looking for the strong connections that exist between the garment and the carrier, the passion that a pair of shoes can cause or emotional experience that the tactility of textiles can bring us. "

Peter Movrin

Among designers like Prada, Damir Doma, Jean Paul Gaultier, Iris van Herpen, Pam Hogg, Bas Kosters, Maison Martin Margiela, Moschino, Rick Owens, Kosuke Tsumura, Undercover, Viktor & Rolf, Yohji Yamamoto, Juun.J etc., will show his work also a super talented Slovene designer Peter Movrin. He will participate with his collection Franz Madonna. (see the video of the collection below).
