SUPERFINE: TAILORING BLACK STYLE

A quiet revolution in fabric and form, Superfine: Tailoring Black Style is the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s most intimate yet resonant fashion exhibition in years. Spanning over three centuries, it traces how Black style, rooted in self-determination, resistance, and cultural brilliance, has shaped the language of tailoring.

Curated by Andrew Bolton and Monica L. Miller, the exhibition brings together over 200 pieces: garments, portraits, archival photographs, and personal artefacts. From 18th-century silhouettes to contemporary statements by designers like Grace Wales Bonner and Virgil Abloh, Superfine unfolds across twelve themes, exploring presence, ownership, adornment, and the enduring power of "cool."

a big MARGIELA retrospective is coming
_ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _

It´s been announced a very thrilling news that a comprehensive retrospective of one of the most "inspired from" designers, if not the most inspiring one (and sometimes too literally), a true design-icon of all time, but also the most invisible one, Martin Margiela, will happen at France´s Palais Galliera in March of 2018 (mark the date). It´s been already eight years since he departed from his eponymous fashion house, but his influencing design by mixing grunge techniques with a conceptual approach and sleek aesthetic remains so inspiring  and profound (and copied) as they ever were.  The exciting part of this upcoming major fashion-event is that the designer himself will be working on the exhibition with the director of the fashion museum, fashion historian and prolific curator Olivier Saillard.

Before that for those who want to see (and who doesn´t?) something made by this enigmatic and super-talented designer, there will be from March 31 all the way through August 27 an exhibition titled "Margiela-The Hermès Years" at the Antwerp´s MoMu museum, which will explore the all 12 collection he designed for the Parisian luxury house.

JACQUELINE DE RIBES exhibition
_ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _

Last Thursday the Metropolitan Museum of Art opened its doors to a "Jacqueline de Ribes: The Art of Style", anexhibition dedicated to French aristocrat Jacqueline de Ribes. Born in Paris in 1929, de Ribes was a muse to numerous haute couture designers and is seen by many people as the ultimate personification of Parisian elegance. She  also directed her own design business  from 1982 to 1995. The exhibit placed in the Anna Wintour Costume Center, features about 60 haute couture and ready-to-wear ensembles from the “The Last Queen of Paris”, once dubbed by designer Valentino Garavani, personal archive dated 1962 to the present.

"The exhibit features dramatic ball gowns, jumpsuits and other bold designs; many of which de Ribes played a part in creating. It was rare that she would purchase a haute couture piece without making several unique changes to it, and as guests travel through the exhibit, they can read more about the influence she had on designers and her significance in the design world." - noted Harold Koda,  the exhibit's curator.

This exhibition that runs through February 21 2016, features designers work including  the already mentioned Valentino Garavani,  Yves Saint Laurent, Madame Grè, Giorgio Armani, Pierre Balmain, Bill Blass, Marc Bohan for Dior, Roberto Cavalli, John Galliano, Jean-Paul Gaultier, Norma Kamali, Guy Laroche, Ralph Lauren, Emanuel Ungaro, Fernando Sanchez for Révillon Frères and some of Ribes' own designs.

HAPPY 10TH ANNIVERSARY HAIDER ACKERMANN

I feel ashamed, because I totally missed this! But nothing is too late…what I am talking about?

A month ago, between the 23 and 25 of July in Colombia was happening the 24th edition of Colombia Moda (a sort of their fashion week) and the launching show was Haider Ackermann´s 10 year’s retrospective. Haider was born in Colombia then adopted by French parents when he was nine (he lived in Ethiopia, Chad, and Algeria before his family moved in the Netherlands) and now based in Paris. After many years, he returned to Colombia only last year for the first time after leaving.

Before the show happened, he also received a key to the city of Medellin from the Mayor, Aníbal Gaviria. The 10 year retrospective of Ackermann´s aesthetic was concentrated 38 runway looks, featuring his well-known color palette, black, plum, olive green, dark blue, silver grey, petrol, white,.. perfectly merged with his favorite fabric, silk. A nice, cohesive collection, that do not gives you a feeling that some pieces are like 10 years old, but looks really fresh and so timeless.

Happy 10th Haider, my dearest!

Low-and high-tech production place for anyone who wants, in the heart of the Fashion Biennale. From June 8 t / m July 8 is the MoBA LAB active. About  MoBA 13

In a series of exhibitions and events, the passionate connection to the public with fashion and accessories explored and mapped. Of the many wristbands by wearing different bra straps to tighten the corset laces that we are literally connected with and under the spell of fashion that the fetishism of man used in its design. A new world of helmets, harnesses and corsets, of caps, aprons and diapers, of tabards and capes, masks, veils and wigs, clogs, and stilts have changed the idiom of the fashion of tomorrow.

In MoBA 13: Fetishism in Fashion will Li Edelkoort in collaboration with co-curator Philip Fimmano and assisted by Willem Schenk guided by the very special and - so far - unexplored world of fashion and fetishism.

Fetishism in Fashion

Li Edelkoort says about Fetishism in Fashion: " A ls great lover of clothing and textiles in particular, I decided to analyze the obsession with fashion and parse through a theme dedicated to the phenomenon of fetishism. An analysis of the need to explore and express ourselves, to cover and extract the most eccentric extremes to which the desire for beauty man can turn to the eye, looking for the strong connections that exist between the garment and the carrier, the passion that a pair of shoes can cause or emotional experience that the tactility of textiles can bring us. "

Peter Movrin

Among designers like Prada, Damir Doma, Jean Paul Gaultier, Iris van Herpen, Pam Hogg, Bas Kosters, Maison Martin Margiela, Moschino, Rick Owens, Kosuke Tsumura, Undercover, Viktor & Rolf, Yohji Yamamoto, Juun.J etc., will show his work also a super talented Slovene designer Peter Movrin. He will participate with his collection Franz Madonna. (see the video of the collection below).

PUNK STORIES

The Met's spring 2013 Costume Institute exhibition, PUNK: Chaos to Couture, will examine punk's impact on high fashion from the movement's birth in the early 1970s through its continuing influence today. Featuring approximately one hundred designs for men and women, the exhibition will include original punk garments and recent, directional fashion to illustrate how haute couture and ready-to-wear borrow punk's visual symbols.

Focusing on the relationship between the punk concept of "do-it-yourself" and the couture concept of "made-to-measure," the seven galleries will be organized around the materials, techniques, and embellishments associated with the anti-establishment style. Themes will include New York and London, which will tell punk's origin story as a tale of two cities, followed by Clothes for Heroes and four manifestations of the D.I.Y. aesthetic—Hardware, Bricolage, Graffiti and Agitprop, and Destroy.

Presented as an immersive multimedia, multisensory experience, the clothes will be animated with period music videos and soundscaping audio techniques.

Vogue celebrates the "Punk: Chaos to Couture" exhibition at the Metropolitan Museum of Art with next four videos made from four different directors.
