FASHION COLLABORATION // RAF SIMONS X MR. PORTER / CAPSULE COLLECTION

Soundtracked by ‘Nevermind’, Raf Simons’ spring/summer 13 collection was both masculine yet feminine, familiar yet fresh, dark yet delicate. As Cobain’s cries faded, the designer’s menswear manifesto loomed large in the memory. It was a moment. A moment that didn’t go unnoticed by MRPORTER.COM’s Senior Buyer Terry Betts who proclaimed, “Raf’s use of colour and Kurt Cobain-inspired grunge florals combined to make his SS13 show one of our favourites.” With the online retailer unveiling exclusive collections with Ami, Beams Plus and Alexander Wang, the addition of Simons to the collaborative cocktail makes it an all too inviting mix.
Adding to the collection’s original vase of beautiful blooms, this creative coming together welcomes uniquely-painted watercolour florals which have been used to transform staples of formalwear and sportswear.

One week before the thirteen piece capsule collection blossoms online, photographer Jeff Hahn and stylist Madeleine Østlie practice the art of Ikebana on Dylan Hartigan. Look right, breathe in its bouquet and enjoy their arrangement of florals, Japanese inspired set design and hot Irish boy.

The Raf Simons x MRPORTER.COM collection will be available from 28th May.

NEW DESIGNER // CHARLIE MAY / S/S 2013

Bio

Charlie May is a young British womenswear designer, currently working and living in London.
Born in Devon, in the south of England, Charlie was raised on a farm and spent her childhood in the same family home. This has inspired her to draw inspiration from her surroundings and background, which leads her to the signature minimalist, androgynous style she has become known for.
She graduated from the University of the West of England in 2010 with a BA(hons) in Fashion Design, where she achieved the privilege of being selected for a place at Graduate Fashion Week.
Alongside studying, Charlie started her blog Girl a la Mode in 2008, this has become one of the UKs top fashion blogs and has since been featured in magazines such as Elle, Company, Grazia Italia, among others. Charlie also contributes bimonthly editorials to AOL’s My Daily.
In her final year of university Charlie worked on Louise Goldin's 2010 Spring/Summer collection.
After moving to London, she started working for Thomas Tait, assisting him for two seasons until pursuing her own label.
Having achieved her debut collection presentation for SS12 and successfully launching her label as a young British designer, she is now working on expanding her label and going into production with seasonal ready-to-wear collections.

SS 2013

Inspiration comes from an ice landscape, featuring the signature muted colour palette of white, nude and cool green with a play on textures, mixing silk, velvet, cotton and leather.
Her signature minimalism is ever present, with the inclusion of the classic white shirt and tailored must-to-have shirt dresses which the designer has become known for.

About "Labo"

Her new collection S/S2013 "Labo" is inspired by a clear light blue sky and is soft as cloud . One perfect minimalism.

CAPSULE COLLECTION // ACNE STUDIOS SPRING 2013

Vogue’s July 1931 cover by Eduardo García Benito; a graphic illustration of a woman’s face in profile played muse for the vibrant prints featured throughout  spring capsule collection for Acne Studios.
A “Big Head” became known as part of the Spanish artist’s signature style—seen here with a tangle of curls and donning a jazz-age turtleneck—and took many attention-grabbing iterations on Vogue covers throughout the roaring twenties.

For this project, Jonny Johansson softened and reworked this lesser-known cover image through the chalky lens of Cecil Beaton’s graphite prints, and splashed it across breezy summer dresses, voluminous skirts, street-smart T-shirts, court shoes, and even baseball caps. “I often come back to the Art Deco era,” says the designer, who keeps a copy of this particular vintage Vogue on his coffee table at home in Sweden. “It’s the definition of modernism and classism combined.”

Take a look of the collection below.
