TECHNO-UTILITARIAN

If you ever thought to get an easy, specific, one-thing collection at Prada, you were wrong or you never really got Miuccia´s aesthetic, yeah that famous "the beauty of ugly." In this this occasion the focus is on leisurewear/sportswear. Sounds easy, too easy for this Milanese brand, and you are right, because Miuccia this time sees his man (and woman, as it is a part of the show too, showcasing traditionally a pre-collection) sharing the wardrobe with a traveller, parachutist, explorer and even a cowboy. Utilitarian style goes hand-by-hand with active-wear, a galore of layered wardrobe made mostly by technical fabrics, shoes included. Not to mention the accessories of the season, at least for Prada, the return on the spotlight of the brand´s nylon backpack, originally invented by dame Prada in the 1990´s, the one that among other Prada nylon-accessories started to make a fortune to the brand.

3 FAVOURITE BEAUTY LOOKS F/W 2017/2018 MFW

Overall natural may be the beauty key word during MFW, a down-to-earth base to put some accents like a touch of peachy on lips at Fendi or even bright red at Prada or punk-like eyes at Marni.

ARCHIVE - 30 YEARS OF PRADA AD CAMPAIGNS

30 years of Miuccia Prada´s well known strangely beautiful aesthetic or as she always call it "ugly beauty" made by her passionate investigation of ugliness, because the classic beauty always bored her. More than 30 photos showcase the brand´s famous ad-campaigns made in these three decades by famous photographers, like Albert Watson, Peter Lindbergh, Glen Luchford, Norbert Schoerner, Robert Wyatt and the most long-lasting collaboration with Steven Meisel.

PRADA RESORT 2017 AD CAMPAIGN

Even though I didn´t recognized her at first, I find the American actress Jessica Chastain great in this Prada Resort 2017 campaign, shot by one and only Willy Vanderperre and styled by OlivierRizzo. To be frank, this is not Chastain´s first campaign, but for sure it´s the first for the Milanese brand and definitely the first one featuring her that I like. These series of images are sort of "Prada playing Prada", meaning that Jessica wears and carries the essential Prada, a kind-of distillation of the brand, while the background features  Milanese landmarks, places where Prada  feels most like at home, such as via Daniele Manin, Civic Planetarium "Ulrico Hoepli" and, of course, Fondazione Prada.

LEAVINGS
_ _ _ _ _ _ _

They are in total four, three officials and one not yet, so it must be treated as a rumour. Everything started on February 1st  (Monday morning) with Kering-owned Italian menswear brand Brioni who released a statement saying that they and designer Brendan Mullane had reached “a joint decision” with not to renew their working collaboration. Few hours later another menswear brand comes out with a similar novelty. The Italian-established and Paris-based Berluti said that its chief designer, Alessandro Sartori, was leaving the LVMH-owned men’s luxury label. Last words of the official announcement weren’t yet said when those classic speculation-talks started to spread out. The strongest one was about Sartori turning to Berluti´s rival house Ermenegildo Zegna after weeks of talk that its designer, Stefano Pilati, would be leaving the Italian luxury fashion house after three years at the helm. At the end was a speculation that turned into reality. Zegna has initially declined anything mentioned, but after few days confirmed Pilati´s consensual departure, but also Sartori´s position as a new artistic director (listed among novelties below). Last but not least and so far the most shocking (possible) leave comes from Céline, saying that after nearly-eight years at the French lux-brand, Phoebe Philo is looking to leave the company. If rumours become reality that would be a huge hit for Céline, after all she turned this formerly overlooked brand into a fashion-highness, not only in terms of position, but also as a massive influence in the fashion industry.

OH, SAILOR

It´s already a public-dominion matter (at least in the fashion world) that when the day for a Prada show is coming, the excitement-level rises normally on maximum levels. This nearly-praising way of this Milanese label was few years till now mostly reserved for their women`s wear show-collections. Not that menswear was flat, but definitely less attractive and prolific compared to women´s. As I said till now, because the bold Prada man is back. Miuccia, beside art and architecture, while making a collection and a whole fashion show, is inspired by events happening around the world, like wars, violence and destruction, mixing all her thoughts and reflections about all topics in a contemporary whole. For the next winter her men and few women would be a conjunction of a naval theme with some Victorian-esque elements and some 1940´s references. Mrs. Prada collaborated with a French artist Christophe Chemin , who created prints for the collection. His drawings adorned vests and wide shirts for men´s part and romantic smocks for women´s that refreshed the whole collection composed by snug jackets with peplums, colourful knit bomber jackets, cropped boxy pants, waist-cinched jackets, officer coats and dramatic capes in a colour palette of navy blue, grey, black, maroon and cognac. A big importance-part definitely goes to the clever-accessories, because everywhere you looked, there was plenty of them; from sailor-inspired knitted beanies, shoulder bags and two-tone lace shoes, to detached collars, metal chains hanging from the belt and tiny leathered cases. I guess the waiting part here really paid off.

PRADA S/S 2016 SET

The corrugated polycarbonate surfaces and smooth fiberglass set-scenario was that impressive for Prada, to use it at both S/S 2016 collections; menswear back in June and womenswear in September. The set was made by brand´s long-time* collaborators at OMA with their research arm AMO, the same ones that also completed the Fondazione Prada**.

RODARTE for & other stories
_ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _

Somehow is & Other Stories lately following the big sister´s (brand H&M) footsteps, by making collaborations with various designers and creative. Since the opening its first stores back in 2013, the young brand (which is under the same roof as the big sister H&M) can pride itself with yet really successful collaborations; from Rachel Antonoff and Vika Gazinskaya, to the latest one made with a stylist Ada Kokosar. Spring 2016 will see the launch of a collection in collaboration with a cool US brand, Rodarte.

"With Rodarte's strong co-lab collection we're adding a new LA-infused perspective to our selection and bringing inspiration and ideas to encourage all personal styles, or stories," said Samuel Fernström, managing director of & Other Stories.

PRADA OLFACTORIES

Miuccia Prada has along her trusted perfumer Daniela Andrier released a range of ten new, unisex scents “Prada Olfactories”.  This new line of fragrances finds inspiration in classic cinema and musical works and each bottle has been named from them; among thhme are Nue au Soleil by Brigitte Bardot inspired by orange blossoms dipped in gold, Day for Night by François Truffaut in hints of amber, wood and leather, Un Chant D´Amour, a calming scent inspired by crisp cotton or Cargo de Nuit, the scent of a twilight passage on the high seas. Each fragrance is presented in its own silk pouche, enriched by typical, colourful Prada prints.

Could you ever imagine Wes Anderson* playing with interior design? He was invited by Prada to create the main dining space inside the OMA-designed Fondazione Prada in Milan, a new arts centre. With a Bar Luce, he intended to recreate the atmosphere from famous Milanese landmarks and cafes around the city in particularly those dating back from the 1950´s and 60´s. The result is a pastel-heavy colour palette** present in various details, colours and finishes, including the upholstered Formica furniture.

NOT A T-SHIRT COLLECTION

Mrs Prada S/S 2016 acts on fluidity, layering, boxy-volume and color-graphic. The looseness of bermudas transformed into shorts, dust coats and slim-fit trousers featuring contrast topstitching, playful knits with space rockets, stripes or bunnies, half-unbuttoned shirts revealing striped, zipped tops and impossible to forget those cropped leather jackets or zipped bombers. The final touch on the whole collection? Shoes of course. There were complete sole-less slip-on booties and holey lace-ups. Did Mrs Prada got any reference while doing it? A lot and none, as for Prada is typical; making its own trend(s) is the luxury fashion house dna, rather than rule. After all, she is the one who said: "When you’re a luxury brand, you can’t show a T-shirt."
