A HINT OF THE PAST WHILE LOOKING AT THE FUTURE

Yes, that 70´s trend can’t really get away, didn´t it? Well, we don´t mind, especially when it comes to brands like Paul Smith, where the 70´s are a big part of their design-influence and/or since everything (literally) started from as it was in Smith´s case. One of the things I really like about this label is that has a recognizable trademark-style, without being stucked on the same thing, nor being repetitive. After all he is known for his abilities of reinventing the classic, constantly, season by season.  There are some 70´s revival-elements present in this collection, like slim and sharp tailored suits in muted plaids, the jeans and whole pattern on pattern thing, but done in a modern, joyful, fresh and youthful way, as it comes with the 60´s elements, like Crombie coats, paisley embroideries and drainpipe trousers or elements from the 80´s, like Vans-style shoes and zippered track tops.

GRACE CODDINGTON to step down as creative director of american vogue

It was definitely the novelty of this past week, especially if we mind that she worked as a creative director for the US Vogue nearly 30 years and tête-à-tête with one and only Anna Wintour. The news may sound tragic for all Coddington-style lovers and supports, but believe me it´s not that dramatic. Take a look at the exclusive interview she made with BoF, where she revealed everything about it and even something more.

SHORT

_____________________________

I must admit; there´s no big difference with my "summer uniform “compared to last year´s summer, when the days are melting-hot. If I am in the city, I try to avoid going out during those days. Well, almost. There are exceptions, like groceries or to “enjoy" a glass of something fresh, even melting in between, just to change a bit the place-perspective. In those situations, as you already know, I tend to go in one world "short". Short out, wearing...khmmm...really short and if the pants are not enough short, I roll them up. Sorry for a possible pain I could cause by looking at it, but for god sake, it´s really hot after all! ;)

Anglepoise® + Paul Smith

What really happens when two iconic British brands join together? Magic. A perfect match. A quintessentially British brand, Anglepoise®, that produces an incomparable series of practical, energy-efficient task lamps, with the unique handprint of Paul Smith´s characteristic colour accents, made a special edition of their Anglepoise® Type75™ table lamp. The result is a modern reinterpretation of this classic design piece.

Paul Smith Men's RTW Fall 2010 / PFW-Day04

Sir Paul Smith sought to bridge his essential British tailoring and the modern sportswear that largely displaced it last season. Dapper suits returned in traditional grays as well as bright jewel tones, while sport coats boasted shawl lapels in contrasting textures such as knit, velvet and jacquard.

Signature details like closely spaced buttons lent distinction to sharp peacoats and chesterfields. Fishing lures doubled as boutonnieres, and the whimsy continued with a feather-print shirt, derby hats, knickerbockers and combinations of checks and diamanté patterns.

Meanwhile, the sportswear retained a sense of athleticism thanks to nylon fabrications and zippers. Shoes, ranging from beat-up high-tops to tidy tasseled loafers, underscored the dichotomy. There’s nothing wrong with merging influences, but it calls for more editing.
