INSIDE YOHJI YAMAMOTO´S FASHION PHILOSOPHY

It´s rare thing this one, a kind of exception, but definitely a par excellence that don´t happen twice. Yohji Yamamoto is known for being reserved and that rarely agree on doing interviews, especially filmed ones. He discussed with Imran Amed highs and lows, and wisdom, from a career spanning more than 40 years.

YOHJI´S SUNNIES TAKE TWO

A "marriage" between tradition and futuristic, made from linear forms and round eye-shape with gold-acetate lenses, all handcrafted of course. This is the second sunglasses collection for s/s 2016 from the master of avant-garde tailoring, Yohji Yamamoto.

After weeks of rumours and speculations, it´s now official and confirmed by the fashion house last Friday:  "Balenciaga and Alexander Wang announce their joint decision not to renew their contract beyond its initial term. Since 2012, Alexander Wang has stood at the creative helm of the maison and has been instrumental in the pursuit of its development. With his proven talent and his irreverent, modern vision of design, Alexander Wang has brought a new impetus to the brand. Balenciaga and Kering would like to thank Alexander Wang for his accomplishments and wish him the very best with his eponymous brand as well as all his future endeavours."
Alexander Wang added: "It’s been an incredible experience to work with a couture house in Paris. I am honoured to have had the opportunity to work for this historical maison. I would like to thank the brilliant team at Balenciaga for their collaboration and for what we have accomplished together, and I am looking forward to taking my own brand to its next level of growth."

As expected, the s/s 2016 Balenciaga collection, which is set to be shown on Oct. 2 during Paris Fashion Week, will be his last collection for the brand. A new creative director will be announced "in due course."

SOFT AND SENSUAL

Yohji Yamamoto brought us for the S/S 2015 something new, something he never did before…the sphere he never researched till now.  Sex. Yes, it´s kind strange to link together this word and Yamamoto´s aesthetic.  But he did it, in his own way and the result is more than perfect. Soft, as the sex can also be. Suspender pants paired with sheer bandeau top, transparent jackets with a pyjama ease, aged-look like knits, laces, cropped jeans-inspired jackets, shirty-corsets and loose slips. Every piece have a Yamamoto-trademark; involved cuts, asymmetry and lots of layering. Even the possible only “rough” element of the collection, the gold leather zipper coats, reminding us a dominatrix, are at the end pure Yohji. No rough, but really sensual, with Tango as a cherry on the top through the whole fashion show.

LET´S GET BASIC - SIMPLE AND CLEAN

Monochrome looks are always cool, clean and fresh...for me the best ones. Like here, for example: a simple multi-layered outfit in white*, contrasted with some black elements. Too simple, too basic? Maybe once it was, when all T-shirts, sweatshirts, trenches,…etc. looked the same -  very plain and dull. Nowadays a range of good basic pieces to choose/get are way wider and to be frank, they are not that easy-basic anymore. For me a really good basic piece is the one you can easily wear and combine with other pieces you have and will have. At the end that´s the point of building a solid wardrobe. A personal one. I would tell you a lie if I don´t admit that season trends still steal my attention...and sometimes and extra euro...yes, it still happens, but I am happy** that this became very rarely. A good way/solution to not fall on that trick is to think at least twice, before you make a possible impulsive decision; think what you have***, think what your style needs and buy o n l y what is missed. Like in every aspects of life: less is more. Easier to maintain, enjoy and it use with less stress.

* with two bottom options: pants+footwear
** with myself, my behave
*** a step before is about cleaning your closet; to donate or sell things you didn´t wear even once in last six months; more about that next time

MAXIMALISM BY YAMAMOTO

Known for his minimalism, most of the time black only, Yohji Yamamoto a bit shocked us with his F/W 2014/2015 menswear collection. Why? From a minimalist you didn´t expect such a multitude and mishmash prints. Definitely his, opposite to minimal, maximal collection so far. If you don´t look at photos from the collection, you can get a point what I am talking about, by listing you few details from it: fall shades and leafs for a camouflage like effect on jacket and trousers, prints inspired by traditional tattoo motifs, such as oversize roses, serpents, skulls and chains on leather parka, suits and cropped pants or decorative zips that gave on most outfits an extra volume on the armhole, leg or back. Now you put all those patterns on clothes presented on a Yohji-way - multi layering. Collars over collars, pants over pants. This time is a (too) much, than a less.

SALE EDIT: JUMPSUIT TIME

FROM LEFT TO RIGHT
DRIES VAN NOTEN oversized reno coat
HAIDER ACKERMANN vitro turtle neck top
YOHJI YAMAMOTO jumpsuit

The sale started in Europe like two weeks ago and in the Usa like (close to) a month ago. Nothing new to write down...it´s not a news thing. I´ve decided to do in next few weeks some stylings, outfits from my favorite on-line shops and of course with only items from the sale. LN-CC starts. From their marvelous selection, here is a day-casual-cozy-unisex outfit. With a season-less element. Consequently they are all good-investment pieces.
What do you have in your mind to buy or you have on your wish list from the sale? Or what you already bought on sale?

LAYERING

We are in the time of so called "the transitional weather period", a time when the weather is changing day to day...one day you feel like is springtime (and it´s just a matter of seconds when you will see flower blossoming), then the another day you feel freezing, like it´s the beginning of the winter (and you got a question mark under your head, like: It´s not a time for the snow...it´s too early!!). Consequently every day you do not know what to wear...less or more? The answer is: "layering"! You can feel cozy when it´s cold, but you can still put off few things if the weather wants to play it´s warmer version.

Here I made two daily-wear-urban outfits...which actually you can still mix-match with one-another. The main color is black (never miss it ;) ), brightened with some beige and python. A plus, actually a must in my selection is also the comfort factor: soft and warm materials, combined with no tight garments.

How you like it? Tell me your opinions.

DAILY BLACK-S

DAILY BLACK-S

After popping some colors, here is my favorite color-non color, black! YESSSS! (Well, we already had one before and I know that there will be more in future ;) ) Even it´s not a pop-up color, it really makes me happy while I am wearing it…I feel most comfortable and it´s also veeery versatile and easiest to combine. Beside the black color, there are three things really important that I "demand" in every garment before I buy it: urban-sporty-but still elegant look, comfort and great quality (I try to invest in less and good, than in tons of cheap-season clothes...i guess that there is some truth in that with years and getting older, you also get wiser, experienced ;) )
Two daily outfits with its belonging shoes and accessories are totally me, a totally what I would Love to wear and have from my (soooo far) favorite shop LN-CC. All pieces are mesh-able, so you can make your own style, look.

Tell me what you think? What is your favorite color?

Y-3 RTW Fall 2010 / NYCFW Day-05

While Yohji Yamamoto’s eponymous line is waging a tough fight these days, the designer was clearly in a playful mood when it came to his Adidas-backed collection. Models came bounding out wearing first a series of casual plaid basics that were slightly military-esque, followed by plays on volume, be it the fullness of capes or the gathered skirts of racer-back dresses.

Yamamoto hasn’t shown his signature men’s collection recently, but meanwhile, Y-3 looks more Yohji than ever in the baggy tailoring, washed fabrics and military influences. Culottes and tartans also harked back to past Yohji collections, while Simon & Garfunkel songs set a nostalgic, wistful mood. The finale saw Yamamoto getting “knocked out” by one of his models, only to rise up with a grin and a wave to the crowd.
