GABRIELE COLANGELO F/W 2014/2015

Every collection is inspired by a different artist; if the S/S 2014 was all influenced by Raku, the Japanese form of ceramic, for the F/W 2014/2015 Gabriele Colangelo found inspiration in works of Kazimir Malevich* and Joachim Bandau**. The square was like a white canvas of the collection; a base on which the designer built a whole collection. It was a great pattern play, layering wool on wool or sheer gazar, achieving a two dimensional effect. A base shape of the collection were prolonged garments, like sleeveless dresses or to the knee skirts, mostly paired with a cocoon-ish shaped coats and tops. The featured color palette included all gradients between black and white with all greys  in between, to achieve an ombré effect. The small pop of color were given by bags with some yellow-fluo details or pale pink, the same one used on models lips.

GABRIELE COLANGELO FOR JIL SANDER?

After we read it (and I also report it on my Facebook page) yesterday about Jil Sander leaving the position of creative director at her eponymous label…today already came out some speculations (ok, let´s just say guessing, rumoring and gossiping) who can be the successor. One name popped out…and this is: Gabriele Colangelo. The Milan-based designer, who´s career has begun with Cavalli and Versace, launched his brand in 2008, which is recognized as an elegant, timeless label designing innovating pieces and reinventing the concept of grace and luxury. This innovating side and luxurious fabrication in combination with the precise cut, is really similar on how Jil Sander worked.

While waiting if these rumors will be confirmed, let´s take a look on Gabriele Colangelo latest work, his S/S 2014 womenswear collection. Inspired by Raku, the Japanese form of ceramic, the collection is composed of mostly simple shapes, like linear dresses, clean coats, and samurai pants. These natural lines in earthy colors (white, beige, charocal, sapphire blue and black) are enriched with pieces made of graphic jacquards and mink jackets, vests that simulate the veiny surface of the Japanese vases. Rich and expensive materials made into something very daily, very calm, clean and so Zen.
