RAD HOURANI UNISEX HAUTE COUTURE COLLECTION #12

Rad Hourani´s unisex haute couture (the only brand that it´s haute couture collection includes menswear) is always built on graphic and futuristic elements; Rad´s signature. The last one, the #12 collection (the S/S 2014), was in a total black. Loads of tailoring and layering techniques. The lead role of the collection was an oversize belt-like leather bow, present through the whole collection, to accent the waistline.

Rad Hourani´s main design point is to not assign clothing to gender. Unisex. And more of that. Hourani promotes the conformism as the essence of individualism, without boundaries and restrictions on age, gender or season.

In the #11 edition of his haute couture we saw his really distinctive design, sculptural, but still very conservative. Multi lapelled coats, crepe silk blouses transformed into architectural corsets, like armors, semi or full leather pants, matched time by time with shorts. In total 22 looks, half for each gender…pardon, I mean individuals…in his Hourani´s classic colors: white, black and dark blue.

If the fashion universe hasn’t already noticed, Jordan-native/Montrealer Rad Houraniis taking Paris by storm (fitting that his name means “thunder” in Arabic), never mind making history. On July 3, the model scout/stylist/designer/visionary will be the first Canadian to present an haute couture collection in the City of Light. This event is also unprecedented in that it will make Hourani the first unisex haute couture designer on the planet. Not bad, considering his label only celebrated its fifth anniversary this year. Not bad either when you remember he’s only 30, just turning so last Friday!
