STREETWEAR COUTURE

When we arrived at the set of the Demna´s first official collection for Balenciaga, we were surprised, actually nearly shocked. It was a television studio with just grey-padded walls, black chairs, loudspeakers and reflectors. When you are used to see Vetements collections in dark or sacral places, like dark rooms, gay clubs or church, you first reaction to this minimalism or essentialism is a big question mark above your head. The one that vanished quickly after the show started, because it worked as it should- meaning, leaving the whole attention to the collection. I must admit that Demna brilliantly mixed his sporty, street-inspired aesthetic with Cristobal´s couture silhouette, even more than I expected and believe me, I never doubted in his talent. The vision of C-curve plaid-looks with emphasized hips at the beginning to oversize outwears pieces, especially puffers and zip-jackets to different floral patterns seen on dresses are still in my mind. Demna put the couture on a street or he added street-wear to couture, as you prefer.
