Sophia Kokosalaki S/S 2010 / PFW / Day four

After dabbling in urban mystique and exoticism in past seasons, Sophia Kokosalaki returned to her Greek roots with her spring collection. Starting with folkloric costumes, the designer led her modern-day Aphrodite out of the dusty museum and onto the street, with delicate cotton pique dresses and bib-front blouses tucked into bloomers or worn over pristine corseting. She worked effortless organic draping on short, pleated silk dresses — some off-the-shoulder, others with straps that crisscrossed at the back — while an embroidered blackthorn motif graced tunics in white tulle. Hellenistic gold cuffs — the product of a new jewelry collaboration with the Greek jeweler Ilias Lalaounis — rounded out the collection, which had just the right dose of sex appeal for today’s goddesses.
