TAKE HER UP TO MONTO

I´ve seen many times different titles that so called "music-experts" gave to Róisín Murphy, ike for a simplest example an Irish electro-pop star or they even try to put her in somehow box as a cross between Björk, Grace Jones and Grimes, which I find it wrong. Will you understand someone if you put that one in a box, meaning limitation, when this person has its own, individual way to express? It´s like cutting the birds wings and then ask that same bird to fly or even sing. For me Róisín, if I need to give her a title, is a pure artist, who likes to combine music and visual-art or more detailed say, she is a pure restless innovator, musically and visually speaking and her latest, yesterday released work is a simple prove of that. "Take Her Up To Monto", her fourth solo album and eight studio album, was recorded and produced with her longtime collaborator Eddie Stevens. The album may seem like a following of last years released and Mercury Prize nominated "Hairly Toys", but would be inaccurate to say that. The album is a pure jewel on its own, Murphy´s personal statement on romance, love, dance and technology. Listen to the album´s track by track preview below and order your copy (digital, cd and lp). Long and freely live true artists like this!

MASTERMIND

Róisín Murphy is one of the last intelligent and eclectic musicians and visual artist on the music/pop-art current scene, if not the only one. If someone in the past thought to mould her into a new superstar in the past ("Overpowered" era), got wrong. After years of silence, she offered to us an exquisite LP "Mi Senti", covering some Italian classics, a year later an even more superior and I can easily say her best album so far, "Hairless Toys".  Sessions with her long-time collaborator Eddie Stevens were very prolific, creating many tracks, but only eight of them "land" in the LP. Neither one good track should be wasted, but this also should not be the reason to repress the organic-making of one album. No problem. Róisín said that those "put on standby" jewels will be a part of the new album, a sort of "Hairless Toys" following. She said it, actually promised it and she did it! Mark the date July 8, because the new 9-track LP, titled "Take her up to Monto", will be out! To get the album´s aftertaste, listen to the first track “Mastermind”.

EXPLOITATION

Róisín is returning in a big way. “Exploitation” is her first official single from the upcoming album “Hairless Toys” that we were waiting for (too long) eight years. But the wait was wrathful! We were all big fans of Murphy´s a bit quirky and full-arty visual side that she made and used for each of her music releases and this one is not different. Actually it is; the Murphy touch is more than ever present in this video for her foreboding Latin-jazz “flavoured” house single. She also directed it.

Róisín released also a statement on why she made this (really appreciable) step forward: “As a grown up in this industry and someone who has always had a huge involvement in the visual side, it felt like it was time I took complete control of my image. I had a crystal clear vision for this video; after all I've had 8 years of collecting references and inspiration building up to it. ... It's about selling out, manipulation and exploitation within creative work and in a relationship. It's ironic because as my own director I'm exploiting myself (if that's possible) but I am manipulating you.”

Take a look at the behind-the-scenes video below and don´t forget that her album “Hairless Toys” is out May 11.

NOVELTIES #07

RÓISÍN is back!
_ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _

After eight years (2007´s album Overpowered) is she releasing a new album, “Hairless toys”. Actually (to be specific) last year she released an EP, “Mi Senti”, made with her partner, Sebastiano Properzi and containing Italian covers, sung in Italian.
Róisín describes the new album as “the dark disco of European house music, Casablanca Records and Grace Jones, while seamlessly taking in the freedom and organic spirit of jazz, country and gospel”.
Listen to the first single below, “Gone Fishing”, produced by her longtime musical director Eddie Stevens. The album will be released on 11th May, but you can preorder your (signed) copy here

Róisín Murphy at Noami Campbell's show in benefit of Haiti last night

One of my favourite artists of all the time, the lovely Róisín Murphy made her first public appereance after giving birth her daughter Clodagh. All happened yesterday at Naomi Campbell´s "Fashion for relief Haiti" fashion show at Somerset House in London, where she also graced the catwalk. Style and music icon.
