DKNY RTW Fall 2010 / NYCFW Day-05

Never underestimate the power of a good coat. Donna Karan underwrote her DKNY collection on that premise, putting out all manner of tailored toppers, such as riding coats, boyfriend jackets, vests and peacoats, with stellar results. They came classically cut in angora and melton wools in a fall palette of camel, burgundy, ivory and gray with a playful plaid thrown in. Shearlings, leather trims and knit riding caps added an equestrian pedigree, yet the mood was kept light with kicky miniskirts done in knife-pleated leather. That sharp, linear sensibility worked back to colorblocking and geometric patterns that introduced pops of blue and silver to the mix on intarsia dresses and Karan’s twisted knit cozy. It made for a modern play between tradition and Karan’s signature comfort zone.
