If there were a humanitarian award for peppy pilings, DVF could honor herself. Her delightfully upbeat fall collection’s tag line: “I always wanted to live a man’s life in a woman’s body.” Indeed, power trips would be so much more comfortable while wearing a lovely black and gold jewel-studded drop-waist satin dress! To that end, pinstripes on jackets, tweed and felted wool blazers gave way to short organza dresses, while snug merino cardigans (in pop colors; this was no dour autumnal affair) were layered on blouses and longer floaty georgette frocks. Nature offered a starting point, too: an exquisite gray and petal-pink bolero was covered in chiffon rosettes; a chic, dark blue thigh-skimmer was dotted with mirrored paillettes, glittering like stars. Even her trademark wrap dress, in ever-efficient black, had cap sleeves worked from stiff, raised black silk leaves.
