The Viktor&Rolf haute couture collection for the upcoming season started with a model wearing a white canvas-like dress, still attached to its golden frame. At first sight looked like that someone smashed a blank paint on her. Consecutively, one by one, came other models, wearing outfits made by the same effect; sculpted coats, dresses and skirts, that gradually became more and more complex in form and less blank. Meanwhile the designer duo undressed each model from their canvas garments to hang them on the wall behind the runway.
Viktor Horsting and Rolf Snoeren used a combination of action painting and classic paintings from the Dutch Age, to obtain the rawness and the aggression of the first and the precision and classicism of the second. When art literally fits like a glove the fashion.
