Searching through Balenciaga´s archives,
Alexander Wang established that the French fashion house rarely did knitwear in
their collection, so he intended to bring that into the house vocabulary. And
he did it. Almost every single look or garment has an element related to the
knit. He opened with sculptural wool coats dresses and jackets embellished with
scuba-inspired zippers in black or acid pink and blue. He continued with aped cabled coats in
polyester jersey and others were knitted with borders in leather or latex.
Daywear dresses and a top were knitted from strips of a polyester jersey,
giving an urban coolness to the collection, reminding us Ghesquière´s period at
Balenciaga. The same feeling we got with all zippers present, on before
mentioned coat, but also on all daily trousers. The evening wear was more
elegant, sophisticated. Lean prolonged and with great cut trousers, pared with
simple white turtle neck or gray sweaters with an arc-like structure. The finale
went to cropped knits embellished with shiny crystals and pearls and worn over
the knotted satin bodice.
