NEW DESIGNERS // MING PIN TIEN / S/S 2013 / LONDON FASHION WEEK

Ming-Pin is based in London, United Kingdom. He studied at University Of The Arts London - London College Of Fashion and graduated in 2012. His collections are produced in Taiwan. Ming-Pin Tien has recently completed the MA degree of Fashion Desgin & Technology- Womenswear, awarded by one of the most creative art school- London College of Fashion. Originally from Taipei Taiwan, Ming has devoted himself in fashion design enthusiastically for 9 years, which includes 18 months working as a professional full-time visual merchandiser in an influential fashion boutique based in Taipei, and another 6 months assisting an emerging Taiwanese womenswear designer- Jolin Wu.

The strength of Ming's design lies in the knowledge of pattern cutting and an individual point of view in beauty and fashion, which leads him skilled in interpreting and executing conceptual designs. Most of Ming's works are strongly abstract concept based, highly focused on creative pattern cutting transformed from the body language, and well balanced in terms of different colours and textures.

For his S/S 2013, Ming Ping Tien has once again captured our attention with his leather buckled formations encroaching across the female form. Acting as armour in caged architectural embodiments at the most extreme level, this collection rang true of the Metaphorical Distance style we saw last season. It was an exploration of human character. Cropped jackets and coats that sat sturdily on the body in a military fashion injected a sense of masculinity against the nude and scarlet palette. Graphic prints applied to floating dresses implied an armour for the warrior woman of 2013 whilst actually exposing unseen emotions within.
