“In light of the deeply offensive statements and conduct by John Galliano in a video made public yesterday, Christian Dior has commenced termination proceedings against him.” - Dior's official statement.
“I condemn most firmly the statements made by John Galliano which are a total contradiction with the essential values that have always been defended by the House of Christian Dior.” -Sidney Toledano, Dior’s President & CEO.
The son of a plumber, John Galliano's reign over the House of Dior comes to an end today. October 14, 1996 - March 1, 2011. He had then replaced designer Gianfranco Ferré; and now someone will replace him. All this due to his recent anti-Semitic remarks made in a Paris bar, and which were recorded on this video posted by Sun.
Last night Natalie Portman, who is the face of Dior's Miss Dior Cherie fragrance, condemned John Galliano for his remarks.
These are the least of his troubles though, as the designer still faces legal action in France. Yesterday Galliano spent more than five hours at a Paris police station. there he he met face to face with the couple who accused him of verbally attacking them last Thursday evening.
A Police officer who spoke on conditions of anonymity said: "[Galliano] denied all the accusations against him."
The designers' show will take place Sunday. All eyes will be on it in France. Dior's show is on Friday.
Update:
Franca Sozzani's opinion:
"While I condemn John's words, I am frightened by how quick these young people were to try to gain notoriety or money while destroying the image of a genius in the process"
