Elie Saab S/S 2010 / PFW / Day eight

A runway covered in black sand suggested moonlight in the desert. But Saab was clearly in an urban state of mind, sending out a series of short, body-conscious dresses armed with powerful shoulders and lashed with zippers. For the red-carpet dressing at which he excels, Saab dialed down the bling, keeping embroidery and beading to a minimum and letting draping and pleating do the dazzling. The Beirut-based designer stuck to a palette of black, beige, raspberry and cobalt for evening, working to a crescendo with a print resembling pixelated confetti. It was an impressive, Hollywood-friendly collection begging for a night on the town.
