Paola Toscano, who took over the creative reins at Piazza Sempione in March, said her mission as design director was to “give the brand a defined identity.” And in her debut collection, Toscano struck a balance between masculine and feminine in snappy, silk organza pantsuits, oversize white poplin shirts and high-waisted pencil skirts, some sporting suspenders. Dresses came ladyfied with arty overtones, like a slim gauzy linen printed with paint splotches and another shift with raised graphic shapes woven into the material, showing the designer’s flair with interesting fabrics.
