This was a strong outing for all three of the designers who showcased their collections as part of the Fashion East program. Michael Van Der Ham’s line of mismatched patchwork dresses in luxe fabrics was a highlight — one standout dress had a gold metallic skater skirt with baby pink silk ribbon ruffled at the hip, while its bodice and sleeves were made up of sections of gold-flecked yellow jacquard and beige silk. Holly Fulton, meanwhile, successfully parlayed the heavily embellished patterns that adorned her fall collection’s dresses into more commercial prints — one intricate, geometric black-and-white skyscraper print covered a chic opera coat. In contrast, Heikki Salonen went in a more laid-back direction, sending out looks such as an oversize cream waistcoat paired with cutoff white denim shorts and weathered brown Dr. Martens.
