Space Invasion

Following all the talk about Neil Armstrong and the anniversary of the moon landings over the last few days, I was reminded about my ongoing love affair with intergalactic prints. It all began with that Peter Pilotto dress, followed by the space-inspired collection of Risto Bimbiloski and now I have come across a couple of designers who have also used outer space as a source of inspiration for their collections.

The first of these is Julie Eilenberger, a young Danish designer who in fact hasn’t even graduated yet but showed her collection during Berlin Fashion Week. The fact that she was inspired by sci-fi is quite evident when looking at the pieces. I love the structured silhouettes, especially the emphasis on the shoulders, juxtaposed with the delicacy of the sheer fabrics and the cosmic prints used.

The second discovery I made was Spanish-based menswear designer Cruz Castillo, when I was immediately struck by the lookbook image above (middle). I was enticed by the translucent quality of the blue shirt and was once again reminded of my great need to add space-inspired prints into my wardrobe.May my love affair with space continue!
