The sheer amount of detail shots on men.style shows just how tremendous the accessories at Lanvin spring/summer 10 were. The mirrored necklaces, the clog-style shoes, the ties, the visors which I’ve already mentioned – all of which on paper seem so wrong and yet, to use the old cliché, are rendered so darn right. It’s the gladiators that stayed with me and have inspired me to try a DIY. There was a deluge of gladiators at the shows, mostly minimal and futuristic in technical fabrics, and Lanvin with their more organic sandals, bucked the trend. With a consideration of their footwear reputation - high tops anyone? – theirs is the gladiator I’m pursuing.
I’ve got an old pair of Topman gladiators from last summer, and I’m going to get some fabric, in co-ordinating, or maybe even clashing colours to add a bit of interest, and glue it straight on to the straps. It could all go disastrously wrong, I shall update with progress.
