Clare’s recent NotJustALabel revelations persuaded me to visit the site for a ‘virtual rummage’- (it’s far cheaper than the real thing. Honestly) and I came across Anna Aichinger, who I had heard of before, mostly because of her SS09 collection, Sonic Summer of Youth. Strong graphic shapes, sheer panelling, a predominantly black and white colour palette…possibly all of my favourite things combined into one rather fabulous photoshoot. Most of her pieces are deceptively simple, contrasting formal minimalism with sex appeal, yet retaining a certain kind of attitude.
Her AW09 collection- the lookbook is now available on her website- is probably easier to wear, soft and loose shapes are impeccably tailored. The black and white coat with the voluminous shoulders is a particular fave. And I’m wondering if my hair is just quite long enough to be swept into the elegant, ladylike up-do. Well Winter’s not for a few months….
