Once again (it already became a cliché, but
I Love this one!) Phoebe Philo surprised me and inspired me with her new
collection for Céline. This time inspired by Parisian graffiti, the ones that
Brassai photographed in the 20´s mixed with an elegant African tribalism, artisanal
concepts and colors reminding “Art Brut”. The collection opened with prolonged,
“brush-painted” T-shirts and tanks that made with long, over-the-knee skirts a
20´s silhouette look. She continued to pair those skirts with oversize sweaters
and tunics to make great texture diversity in the collection. Coats got an
important role too, bold-painterly for dare women, black belted and bordered
with multicolored O-rings for modern, but less “loud” ones. Who don´t Love Céline bags? I bet you will
Love from this collection too or even more! Big sacks with fringes or big and
flat carryalls in vivid colors with contrasting lining and metal handles. Shoes? Those shoes! In front quite simple, “normal” but with an edge in the
heel part: cubic-metal or transparent or with “Love, Life” labels on sneakers
back.
Phoebe is definitely a woman who
understands women´s needs (of course you will say, she´s a woman…but in most
cases that´s not an assurance) and she make comfortable and functional dresses
(and not only) with a fresh and modern appeal.
