L'Wren Scott RTW Fall 2010 / NYCFW Day-09

What began as a quiet, lunchtime presentation for industry and a few of L’Wren Scott’s famous friends has quickly become the “right” show for fashion-seeking celebrities. This season, Brooke Shields, Selma Blair and Daphne Guinness sat alongside L’Wren’s regulars, Ellen Barkin and Mick Jagger, who was sandwiched between two buxom beauties, Christina Hendricks and Rachel Feinstein. For all the star wattage in the room, when the thick gray curtains, hung for Scott’s show at the West 21st Street Gagosian Gallery, parted to reveal an immaculate backstage area filled with precisely arranged empty racks, one for each model’s look, it was a reminder of how disciplined her vision is. Out marched 33 meticulous styles, all chic of the highest order, that seemed to follow an English dandy from day through elegant night. Still strict in its ultrasexy silhouette, this time the collection had more whimsical flourishes with buttoned-up, Beau Brummel-style jackets spouting high ruffled necks, frogging details on a pencil skirt and squat top hats. There were a few great, modern Hitchcockian moments, such as a slick, gray leather cape worn over a lace skirt with a jagged hem, before things turned seductively noir. Scott’s variations on the classic tux — a black leather shirtdress and a long, embroidered smoking jacket — oozed dark sophistication.
