Givenchy Men's RTW Fall 2010 / PFW-Day02

With “Ave Maria” reverberating through a gilded Sorbonne ballroom, Riccardo Tisci paraded a collection awash with ecclesiastical references. Crown-of-thorn necklaces and a T-shirt emblazoned with “Jesus Is Lord” set the tone, along with black skorts worn over tights and teamed with sandals. While not all the references were quite so literal, the message was prevalent throughout. A sturdy duffle coat’s oversize hood subtly recalled a monk’s habit, while gleaming white shirts had clergy collars or densely ruffled bibs. Tisci showed his talent at the cutting table, with sharp-shouldered jackets and elegant topcoats for his street-smart clientele. However, his religious fixation yielded a sinful lack of variety.
