Just Cavalli S/S 2010 / MFW / Day one

Roberto Cavalli has long plied his trade with raw sex appeal and spring was no different. In fact, perhaps owing to the label’s 10th anniversary, this collection was an even more zealous ode to all things suggestive and sultry. His first girl out wearing a corset and sheer slipdress with “I’ve just been touched by Cavalli” emblazoned across her bodice said it all. But rather than push his usual high-glam vamp, Cavalli took the lineup into grungy boudoir terrain — smudgy kohl-eyed babes in wispy dresses effortlessly layered over graphic T-shirts or vests over see-through tanks over pointy bralettes. There were some gentler fringe moments as well as plenty of denim of the distressed and embroidered variety. While the finale street-rocker looks may have seemed a bit old hat to the fashion crowd, Cavalli’s hard-core clientele — such as the head-banging gal sitting in the front row — shouldn’t mind.
