Antonio Marras S/S 2010 / Milan Fashion Week / Day one

The fact that Antonio Marras was in a romantic mood this season was evident from a backdrop of frilly pillow-shaped balloons and the plastic lace runway. And that dreamy quality also ran through Marras’ lineup of wispy layers, edgy textures and quirky combinations with flashes of retro underwear. There was a plethora of slip dresses, some embroidered, others transparent, in dusty pastels, azures and berry reds. This season’s floral prints ranged from bold to graphic to painterly, used on burlap jackets or chiffon slips. The designer also played with a sailor-meets-pirate theme via navy-and-cream striped toppers over faded blue shorts and black lace trims that looked more fit for the promenade than the open sea. All in all, it was pretty, lighthearted and very Marras, but it went on a bit too long.
