Exciting news for JC/DC fans

When I was in Paris for the Spring/Summer 2009 shows, the highlight of my trip was without a doubt the Jean Charles de Castelbajac show. Not only is Castelbajac one of my all-time favorite designers (not to mention way too often overlooked in favor of Jeremy Scott), but he is so smart and forward-thinking that when Sasha Baron Cohen, in character as Bruno, crashed his show, the Moroccan designer actually saw it as a positive and amusing occurrence. JC/DC always stages the liveliest, most well-thought out, and original shows. His pieces truly have the potential to reach way beyond their current demographic.

The designer recently came out with a pair of do-it-yourself Lego Ray Ban Wayferer-style sunglasses where you could build Lego onto the sides of the glasses.

The shades created somewhat of a buzz stateside, which was bolstered when daring fashionista Lady Gaga began popping-up in some of JC/DC’s pieces – most notably a Kermit the Frog dress and hat – which has helped introduce the designer to a new audience. With this in mind, I couldn’t be more excited about the news that the Marquis de Castelbajac will be introducing a diffusion line called JCDC. The line is slated to include T-shirts, skirts, and jackets all done with the designer’s signature, colorful and animated flair. One T-shirt is said to feature an image of Donald Duck, while a skirt is made from a fabric in a newspaper print.

The JCDC collection will be launched via a presentation on September 17th in London just before the start of London Fashion Week and will be followed by one in Paris on the 23rd. Prices for the line start at around $86 for a T-shirt and go up to about $329 for a military style red-and-blue jacket with gold buttons.
