Mouton Collet (Belgium)

High impact jewellery with a witty edge defines Mouton Collet’s breakaway range for men.

Text by Kat George

Based on a long friendship and inspired by the tradition of a country landscape, Mouton Collet’s new jewellery range for men pushes the boundaries of preconceived notions of menswear. As avant garde necklaces create obtuse angles in mind bending shapes, intricately carved pigs heads stare back from delicate gold chains while menacing beetles climb from lapel to shoulder. With a dry humour and fetishist elements in their styling, Mouton Collet has produced an inspiring collection for men; perhaps one that unsuspecting customers will find stolen by their jealous girlfriends, eager to flaunt such an unusual style. Design duo Matthieu and Nicolas talk to Kat about their love for Chanel, and about how simple their road to fashion really was…

How old are you?
Matthieu 28 years old Nicolas 29 years old.

How long have you been designing?
Mouton Collet started 3 years ago but we met at school as kids!

Where are you based?
The company is based in Belgium but our studio is in Paris.

Why mens jewellery?
We have been asked more and more by our male fans and frends, our jewellery is very androgynous, a lot of boys like the fact that our jewellery holds a double meaning... a sense of humour.

What inspires you at the moment?
We are inspired by the Belgian landscape of our grand parents..memories of an environment, seasons, customs, a place full of silence....

Who are your favourite designers and why?
Olivier Theyskens for his very personal and poetic vision of women.

How would you describe your style?
Mouton Collet likes the countryside, the vegetal world, the farmland world, we are interested in traditional craftsmanship, we want to bring a modern and sophisticated exploration of this rural world through our jewellery. We like to play with concepts such as beauty and irony, adoration and disgust, we like to mix styles, we like to experiment...

Were you interested in fashion while growing up?
Fashion has always been a simple and obvious path for us.

What are your plans for the future?
We would like to position Mouton Collet in the jewellery Industry, we would like to develop other accessories and possibly work on a fine jewellery collection.

What is your dream job?
CHANEL FOR EVER.

Can we buy your collection anywhere? If so, where?
France, Belgium, Germany, Greece, Japan, Taiwan
